Sonus Umbra (Mexico City / Chicago, Illinois)
The band started out as Radio Silence back in the early 1990s, and was founded in Mexico. Their influences include Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, Iron Maiden, The Who.
Relocating to Chicago having released a debut album, they renamed themselves due to legal reasons to Sonus Umbra in the late 90s, and have released a few acclaimed albums before going on an indefinite hiatus. With a new incarnation formed featuring some of the most accomplished veteran musicians of the Chicago rock music scene, Sonus Umbra have released the albums "Winter Soulstice" in 2013 and "Beyond the Panopticon" in 2016, and are actively touring as a live band.
Discipline. (Detroit, Michigan)
Discipline is a progressive rock band that has performed and recorded together since 1987, and remains one of the top bands in the American progressive rock scene.
As Detroit's Orbit newspaper writes, Discipline weaves a wicked web of lush, whimsical melodies, cynical stories and melancholy theatrics".
Having appeared at numerous progressive rock festivals In 2012 the band appeared at RoSfest, the Rites Of Spring progressive rock festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The band has also performed at NEARfest (Northeast Art Rock Festival), Terra Incognita, ProgScape, Orion Studios, and six separate performances at ProgDay in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The band drew praise at UKs Summers End festival in 2015 with reviews declaring Discipline the band of the weekend..
Chromatica (Toronto, ON)
Opening the night will be local progressive hard rock trio Chromatica. Formed by guitarist/violinist/vocalist Ed Bernard -Musician (from Druckfarben) in 2016, the band cites Rush, Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant, Soundgarden among their influences, and have been known to play interesting cover takes on classic rock & prog tunes. Chromatica were the special opening guests at Toronto's Half Past Four's album release party last year, and have most recently been the local support act for French zeuhl/progressive rock band MAGMA.
This event will be Sonus Umbra's and Discipline's debut performances in Toronto, with each band playing substantial and electrifying sets, so don't miss this opportunity to witness this intimate progressive rock show!
